Max Yount and Beverly Hawkins '74 Max Yount and Beverly Hawkins ’74

  • Jim McGee ’72 has just published his second action/adventure novel, The Zebras from Minsk. After a decades-long career as a national security professional, a second career as a novelist fulfills a dream from Jim’s days as a history major at Beloit.

  • Beverly Hawkins ’74, a music major, was pleased to run into Max Yount, emeritus music professor, at a concert in Madison. It was nice to have a few moments to visit and they both enjoyed the concert. When she texted the picture to her good friend Bobby Hirschhorn ’74, he wrote back, “He looks fantastic! He never ages.”

  • Jon Ball ’76 has finally retired after 43 years teaching mathematics at every level from middle school to university. His life is now consumed by FranklinParkDefenders.org, a group trying to block a plan to build a professional soccer stadium in Franklin Park, a partially wooded 527-acre parkland bordered by the Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, and Dorchester neighborhoods of Boston, Massachusetts. He welcomes support from all over the country (that means you, Beloiters!), saying, “if they can do this to a National Historic Landmark in an environmental justice community, then no public park anywhere in the U.S. is safe from developers.”

  • Eric May ’79 recently had a book signing event in Nice, France for his third book, The Solo Consultant, which is available now on Amazon.

  1980-1989

  • Chris Nelson ’82 has created two Substack publications in his retirement. “The Cult of Authenticity” is an analysis of the American view of authenticity as found in newspaper articles, etc. “The Literary Stylings of Christian Nelson” consists of a monthly poem he’s written. He welcomes any and all comments on the posts.

  • John Dion ’88 has moved to Russell Sage College where he is a marketing professor and director of graduate studies in the School of Management. He recently published “When the Institution Closes: Navigating Job Loss and Identity in Higher Education,” a chapter in Narratives of Upheaval in Higher Education.
