Course Levels
Center for Collections Care courses meet beginner, intermediate, and advanced training needs. Each class is identified as either Level 1, 2, or 3. Level 1 knowledge and skills are expected of those applying for intermediate and advanced level courses.
- Beginner (Level 1): basic understanding of agents of deterioration, preventive care, and object handling; ideal for emerging professionals or those with no formal training.
- Intermediate (Level 2): performs preventive care tasks (collection housing, environmental monitoring, labeling, packing/moving/transport, condition reporting/survey, pest management, object photography, emergency preparedness and disaster recovery, exhibit preparation, surface cleaning, etc.); ideal for practicing professionals in need of new knowledge and skills.
- Advanced (Level 3): performs stabilization techniques/treatments (paper repair, adhesive removal, textile stabilization, instrumental analysis, etc.); ideal for advanced professionals who want to build on a foundation of intermediate-level knowledge and training.
