The Beloit College Alumni Association is pleased to award the Distinguished Service Citation to Anne Mahle, class of 1992, on this, her 25th Reunion.

In 1990, while interning at the Office of then-Lieutenant Governor Marlene Johnson of Minnesota, Anne wrote in a paper that “You can either work very hard and get a tremendous amount out of it, or you can do very little and not get much from it. It is really your choice.”

The statement continues to describe Anne’s work philosophy.

After graduating from Beloit College, she took a position as a bilingual teacher for Teach for America in Rio Grande Valley, Texas. Moving through the organization, she began to build community partnerships to recruit more math and science teachers as director of Teach for America’s math and science initiative. She later became the executive director for the Seattle branch.

Marrying her love of politics and change, and not one to shy away from a challenge, she enrolled in law school at the University of California-Berkeley. She took a position at Faegre & Benson, LLP, notably managing major litigation around the downgrading of grey wolves under the Endangered Species Act. During this time, she was named a rising star in the Minnesota legal community by Minnesota Law & Politics magazine in 2004.

Yearning for more community involvement, Anne soon found her way back to Teach for America, and now leads 17 staff members as the senior vice president of public partnerships.

For her commitment to education and to her community, and for embodying the mission of Beloit College, the Alumni Association is thrilled to count Anne E. Mahle among the accomplished Beloit alumni who have received the Alumni Association’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Citation.
