Raj Fernando’93 DSC
Distinguished Service Citation
Raj Fernando
Class of 1993
Awarded 2018
The Beloit College Alumni Association is pleased to award the Distinguished Service Citation to Raj Fernando, class of 1993, on this, his 25th reunion.
Raj already showed potential upon entering Beloit. All of his letters of recommendation predicted as much, and in true Beloiter fashion, Raj has far surpassed those expectations.
A double major in history and economics, Raj studied abroad in London during his time at Beloit. And while all Beloit experiences are meaningful, his decision to volunteer at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange proved to be life changing. Raj worked his way up through the company, and after holding various high-level positions, founded his own company, Chopper Trading in 2002. The company, which trades in both national and international markets, brought Raj back to his roots as he employed several Beloiters full-time and hosted a number of interns from the college.
After selling the company in 2015, Raj launched Workstorm. Workstorm is an enterprise collaboration system that combines workflow efficiency with data security and after three years of engineering, they are going to market.
Raj remains actively involved in the communities around him. He has served on the boards of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as well as Paws Chicago, a no kill animal shelter in addition to working with numerous not for profits. Additionally, he served on the Foreign Policy Leadership Committee at the Brookings Institution, and is on the board of directors for the American Security Project and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
For leading a fulfilling life marked by high achievement, personal responsibility, and public contribution-in other words, for living the mission of Beloit College-the Alumni Association is pleased to award Raj Fernando with its highest honor: the Distinguished Service Citation.
