Arline Robbins Bernard’41 DSC
Community Leader - Secretary
Having realized a youthful ambition to be a secretary, you credit our college for helping you develop the ability to assume and enjoy the many leadership responsibilities you have executed so successfully. Mother of two, you have complemented employment as a Welcome Wagon hostess and executive secretary by giving generously of your time to community betterment. Your dedicated service as Rockford Area Mission Council organizer and on the Second Congregational mission board made you the ideal choice in 1973 to become the first woman elected to the presidency of the Illinois United Church of Christ Conference, with a total membership of 145,000. A veteran Girl Scout day-camp director and council treasurer, you direct promotion for the A.D. denominational magazine, head the Continuation Committee of the American Missionary Association’s national drive to raise $17 million by year’s end and preside over the Northern Illinois Federation for Offenders, which assists adult prisoners and former inmates. In recognition of your demonstration of how good and full one’s life can be, Beloit College is honored to present you this Distinguished Service Citation.
