Beyond the campus community, you have served as a United Givers leader, Cancer Society officer, Citizen’s Advisory Committee member, technical advisor to city officials, church leader and amateur radio enthusiast with an advanced class license.

1991 Distinguished Service Citation

Educator – College Administrator

Although a blend of Beloit College and chemistry shaped much of your life, the 17 years you spent in the Field Term Office and the six you served as director of career services earned you student acclaim as a caring and dedicated counselor, mentor and friend. After military service and study at Syracuse University, from which you have a master’s degree and doctorate, you returned to campus in 1948 and taught all but one chemistry course for 16 years. Active in National Science Foundation work, you created learning opportunities in science and mathematics for local elementary school teachers, served as associate program director in the Institute Section and taught chemistry to high school instructors in India one summer. Your subsequent role in the field-term program, of which you became director in 1969, won Beloit national prominence for placing 5,000 students with social, governmental and corporate employers in 49 states and 57 foreign countries. Prior to retirement in 1983, you also initiated Beloit’s career planning and placement program. Beyond the campus community, you have served as a United Givers leader, Cancer Society officer, Citizen’s Advisory Committee member, technical advisor to city officials, church leader and amateur radio enthusiast with an advanced class license. Beloit College recognizes your demonstrated commitment to higher education and civic duty by presenting you this Distinguished Service Citation on the occasion of your 50th Class Reunion.
