After receiving your bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Beloit and after concluding World War II Pacific Theater service as a naval officer, you earned your master’s and doctor’s degrees from the Institute of Paper Chemistry. You were first engaged in chemical research and engineering, then joined the staff of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry, better known as TAPPI, as technical secretary. In just six short years you attained the influential association’s top post that of executive secretary-treasurer; TAPPI with its membership of more than 11,500 in over 55 countries, today is the world’s largest organization serving the pulp, paper and allied industries.
