Paul E. Hodgson’43 DSC

Active in professional societies, you are a governor of the American College of Surgery and author of many papers, particularly on metabolism and thrombosis.

1973 Distinguished Service Citation

Greatly impressed by a doctor’s autobiography, you decided to enter medicine long before enrolling at Beloit. You spent three years here, then transferred to the University of Michigan, where you received a medical degree in 1945. After Army service, you returned to Michigan, completed residency in general surgery and spent a decade on the medical faculty, including four years as chief of the Ann Arbor VA Hospital. In 1962, you went to the University of Nebraska College of Medicine as professor of surgery and assistant dean for curriculum development; you were appointed Department of Surgery chairman last year. Active in professional societies, you are a governor of the American College of Surgery and author of many papers, particularly on metabolism and thrombosis. You still make time, however, to be a church elder, Girl Scout camp leader, president-founder of Huron Valley Swim Club and director of Young Life and the American Cancer Society. It is with great pleasure that Beloit College acknowledges your professional accomplishments and broad civic service and presents you this Citation as your Class gathers for its 30th Reunion.
