1976 Distinguished Service Citation

Banker – Financial Economist

The determination you demonstrated in working your way through college has paid dividends in your highly successful career in finance. You expanded your background with advanced study in economics and business while an investment counselor and analyst after graduation. Named an administrative aide to Illinois Treasurer Adlai Stevenson III in 1966, you completed his term when he resigned upon election as U.S. Senator. Later, while vice president-treasurer of the Horace Mann Corporation, you were elected chairman of the Illinois Board of Investment, which managed portfolios exceeding $400 million for state employees, judges and assemblymen. Last year, you became administrative vice president, trust department head, and corporation secretary of Chicago’s American National Bank & Trust Company. A respected state financial consultant, you chaired the 1973 Illinois Budget Task Force and later served on units concerned with implementing the comptroller’s office and financing higher education. In recognition of your outstanding achievements, Beloit College proudly awards you this Distinguished Service Citation, the first to a member of your 20th Reunion Class.
