Kenneth H. Williams’1930 DSC

A leader in the arts, banking, commercial, industrial and safety organizations in your community.

1980 Distinguished Service Citation

Retail Executive – Community Leader

The abilities you developed during your undergraduate days here have served you well in your successful business career over the past half-century. Within five years after joining Marshall Field & Company as a clerk, you attained executive status and later managed the firm’s operations in China and the Philippines. After World War II service and administrative assignments with the Montgomery Ward and R. H. White firms, you joined Stewart Dry Goods Company in Louisville and advanced to chairman and chief executive officer before your recent retirement. You also were vice president of the Associated Dry Goods Corporation, which operates Stewart’s as one of 19 quality department stores with total sales approaching two billion dollars. Your civic contributions are equally impressive: you are past president of the Kentucky Retail Federation and the Retail Merchants of Louisville, a former director of the National Retail Merchants Association, and a leader in the arts, banking, commercial, industrial and safety organizations in your community. Beloit College honors your outstanding business and civic achievements by presenting you this Distinguished Service Citation on the occasion of your 50th Class Reunion.
