Minister – Youth Leader
You have had a positive influence on the lives of thousands by heeding the advice of the late Lloyd Ballard, Beloit alumnus, sociology professor and department chairman, who taught you that the greatest deed that an individual can perform is to serve others, especially those in distress. As a clergyman, you don’t know the word “retire”; for after completing four decades as minister at six churches in Massachusetts and Washington, you accepted summer and interim pastorates and only three months ago assumed full time duties at Spokane’s Westminster Congregational Church until a permanent successor is found. All the churches you served enjoyed physical expansion, financial success and phenomenal growth, with one adding nearly one thousand new members during your eight years there. You have been a youth leader at all levels, from counselor and story teller to substitute high school teacher; your genuine interest and high performance have earned you key roles in programs devoted to mission and social concerns and to denominational service. Because your humanistic interest and service so well symbolize one of its major goals, Beloit College proudly awards you this Citation as you return to the campus for your 50th Reunion.
