Richard W. Blakey’1933 DSC
1983 Distinguished Service Citation
Attorney – Public Servant
You credit the Beloit faculty in general and such familiar and revered members as Dickie Richardson, William Bledsoe, John Forsyth Crawford, Floyd McGranahan and Merrill Batchelder in particular for making a valued and lasting impression that has served you well during your distinguished legal career. A native of Rock County and a graduate of the state university’s law school, you succumbed to the attractions of Reno and its environs when you went to Nevada in 1944 as litigation for the Office of Price Administration. Having practiced there continuously for the past four decades, you have been rewarded for your outstanding professional ability by being elected chairman of the Board of Bar Examiners, president of the State Bar, member of the American Law Institute, and fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. For more than 30 years, you have served on the Nevada Supreme Court’s advisory committee on rules of civil procedure and as a trustee of the Nevada Children’s Foundation, which you helped incorporate. You also have contributed to your community’s welfare, devoting a dozen years to membership in its Civil Service Commission. It is with pleasure that Beloit College awards you this Citation in recognition of your valuable service to society as you and your 1933 classmates come together again on this campus to celebrate your 50th Reunion.
