John Kendrick Strong’1933 DSC

You have effectively used the media for spiritual communication as an author, radio broadcaster and television moderator.

Clergyman – Author – Moderator

Though an Iowan by birth, you literally grew up on the Beloit campus, using it as an extension of your boyhood home in the 600 block of Church Street. Your College application shows you were attracted to the service of God at an early age; and for the past dozen years, this area in general and Janesville in particular have benefitted from your theological ministry at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Holder of a Hartford Seminary divinity degree, you practiced what you preached in founding the Janesville Ecumenical Fellowship of Priests and Ministers and helping organize the Area Human Rights Council. You chaired the group that created the United Church’s new Wisconsin Conference, and then became its first moderator. You have effectively used the media for spiritual communication as an author, radio broadcaster and television moderator. Active in scouting, you also have served on the Salvation Army and Children’s Service Society boards and the Church Retirement Home’s Executive Committee. Because your exemplary humanistic concerns and service and your deep religious faith are so consistent with part of Beloit’s mission, the College proudly awards you this Citation.
