Medical Librarian – Editor

As a faculty child whose father, Henry H. Armstrong, was chairman of the department of romance languages, you grew up in Beloit constantly aware of the College and greatly influenced by it. You earned magna cum laude and Phi Bets Kappa honors in preparing here for a career in chemistry, but this interest eventually gave way to medical librarianship. During 15 years at Northwestern University’s Medical School Library, where you were serials librarian, you also worked as principal abstractor for a specialized chemical abstracting firm; translated and edited manuscripts for the Journal of Gas Chromatography; served as a Girl Scout, PTA, League of Women Voters, YMCA and hospital volunteer … and raised three children. You then joined the staff of the Francis A Countway Library of Medicine at Harvard Medical School where, as acquisitions librarian, you were responsible for the selection, budget, purchase and processing of books and periodicals until your retirement in 1981. Beloit College recognizes your significant achievements in combining career, family, and civic interests by awarding you this Distinguished Service Citation as your Class gathers again on the campus to celebrate its 50^th Reunion.
