Laurence Arthur Raymer’1934 DSC

Your great energy, cheerful manner, and sincere willingness to help your fellow man have touched the lives of many.

1969 Distinguished Service Citation

Civic Servant – Editor

Receiving honors is nothing new to you. Your unselfish efforts to serve the best interests of children, young people, adults and senior citizens in your native community have gained for you much deserved recognition. You have made a career of boosting Beloit, primarily as a newspaper editor and, during the past two years, as executive vice president of the Greater Beloit Association of Commerce. Your great energy, cheerful manner, and sincere willingness to help your fellow man have touched the lives of many. You have been on 11 civic boards and have held the presidency of three; you have assisted in the organization of local safety, recreation, service, and sports groups. The Eagles Lodge in 1949 named you “Outstanding State Citizen”; the Jaycees in 1954 selected you as the city’s “Outstanding Citizen,” and the Association of Commerce in 1958 lauded you as “Man of the Year.” Your editorials have won five awards from the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge for contributions to a better understanding of the American way of life. An Eagle Scout, you hold scouting’s highest adult honor, the Silver Beaver, for distinguished service to boyhood. You have been cited for the promotion of Brotherhood Week by the National Conference of Christians and Jews, and you have been a member of the Governor’s Commission on Human Rights. Despite this heavy schedule, you found time to serve your Alma Mater as a Class Secretary and as a member of the Alumni Association’s former executive body, the Alumni Council. It is clearly appropriate that on the basis of this record, Beloit College honor you as your Class gathers for its 35th Reunion with this Distinguished Service Citation.
