1979 Distinguished Service Citation
Public Servant – College Trustee
Your wide-ranging accomplishments as a public servant establish you as a model of the liberally educated citizen concerned with efforts to meet the needs and aspirations of those less fortunate. You have been prominent in developing creative new programs for rehabilitation of the disabled, accepting major leadership responsibilities on the President’s Committee on Employment of the Handicapped and its Project Earning Power. A past chairman of Goodwill Industries of America, you have also been honorary chairman of the U.S. Committee on Household Employment and a director of MAINSTREAM. Your civic and educationally-related contributions range from service on the first District of Columbia School Board and in the Widening Horizons Program for aiding teen-agers to service since 1967 as a trustee of your Alma Mater. You praise Beloit for encouraging critical thinking – a factor in selecting your future husband, alumnus Bill Wirtz, to whom you have been a valuable partner in his own distinguished legal and public career. In testimony to your exemplary humanistic concerns and service, and to your valued participation in our College’s advancement as a trustee for more than 12 years, Beloit takes special pleasure in presenting you with this Distinguished Service Citation.
