Continuing the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The office of the Associate Dean for Student Success & Community is honored to invite you to the 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. convocation, Jan. 19 at 4:30 p.m. in Eaton Chapel, a celebration of the life, legacy, and impact of one of the most influential leaders in American history. Join the Beloit College community as we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through this year’s theme, “Brave Belonging: Building Community Through Shared Humanity.” Together we will reflect on the courage required to create inclusive communities, the importance of seeing one another’s humanity, and our shared responsibility to shape a just and compassionate world. The event will feature Atiera Coleman ’10, a valuable member of the Beloit College community, with comments from President Eric Boynton, Dean of Students- Ron Watson, student speakers Damila Hurn ’28 and Lyndall Breaux ’27 and Upward bound student Kanani Crosby. Music by Miles Wisdom, Beloit Memorial High School graduate and Essentially Ellington award winner. Sports recap Men’s Basketball had a productive break, winning two games against tough opponents. Anthony Carter ’27 led both teams in scoring with 20 points in a dominant 78-53 win against Rockford University. In their 86-67 win against Lakeland University, Dae’Quan Davis ’26 scored 18 points off the bench and Lathan Lewis ’26 grabbed a game-high 3 steals. Women’s Basketball put on a masterclass against Lake Forest College, winning 60-48. The game saw Hailey Johnson ’26 secured a double-double and Julia Kennedy ’28 scored 16 points. Men’s Hockey faced tough challenges, with many bright spots on defense. The three goaltenders made a combined 243 saves over the break. The team scored 11 goals, including seven players who scored their first career goals. Men’s hockey takes to the ice again at the Woodman’s center on Monday at 1pm. Women’s Hockey kicked off 2026 with a dominant 6-2 win at the University of Dubuque. Kylie Schryer ’28 and Julia Fussy ’28 each scored multiple goals, and goalie Janelle Quast ’29 made 33 saves on the day. Track and Field kicked off their season over the break, with Josh Yearby ’27 breaking a school record for the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.24. Nate Otis ’26 excelled in the high jump and the 400-meter dash. Cole Miller ’27 took first in the 800-meter and 600-meter races. In the field events, John Deary II ’28 took first in long jump and Naomee Casey ’27 captured first in pole vault. Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving started 2026 strong with a win against Monmouth College in which Jeremy Mueller ’27 and Lydia Nordgren ’28 won a combined five events. In diving, Elsa Gregory ’28 and Jacob Fuller ’28 took first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Against Loras College, Kelsey Gerstler ’28 placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle, and Lylah Murrah ’27 won the 200-yard Individual Medley. |
