Spotlight on Dariya Kylyshpay ’28, Intern at Blackhawk Technical College CARE Center

Meet Dariya Kylyshpay, a sophomore from Kazakhstan majoring in quantitative economics and computer science with a minor in technology in public health at Beloit College.

Dariya with her supervisor Ann Forbeck

Dariya Kylyshpay found her recent internship at the Blackhawk Technical College CARE Center to be transformative. She conducted research, helped develop a plan to open a daycare on the main campus, identified grants for the Student Cupboard, and located different AODA resources to assist students or their families facing challenges.

Dariya is grateful for her supervisor, Ann Forbeck, who shared her knowledge, helped Dariya feel confident in her abilities in a workplace off Beloit’s campus, and engaged her in conversations through which she learned a great deal about the history and people of Rock County. Dariya shadowed her supervisor and supported her with a variety of tasks, including attending meetings and participating in the student counseling process.

Working closely with the Rock County community helped Dariya think more critically about her own identity and power, to question assumptions she had carried for years, and to recognize social issues she had previously overlooked.
