Spotlight on Maggie Joyce ’27 Community Fellow with Welty Environmental Center

Meet Maggie Joyce, an Impact Beloit Community Fellow at Beloit College from Madison double majoring in biology and media studies with a minor in Spanish.

Maggie is gaining hands-on experience through her multiple roles at Welty Environmental Center. She helps organize programming and co-facilitates field trips for children, for example, Maple Sugar Fest, and her classes in environmental biology and bilingual education have enriched her ability to teach effectively.

This real-life setting exposes her to the day-to-day workings of a community organization and builds her confidence before entering the workforce. “This fellowship has helped me get a glimpse into working in a non-profit organization and all the little mechanisms that help keep it afloat,” she said, and she is eager to learn more about grant writing this semester.

Maggie finds motivation from the dedicated staff, who inspire her to care deeply for the community and environment. She observes:

“They are some of the most clever and empathic people I know who constantly inspire me to be more caring and attentive.”
